Rob Mitchell - Unit 3 Level 2 Evaluation

Rob Mitchell
Media Nationals Unit 3 Level 2
Introduction to Media Production
Evaluation

Our strengths as a group were that we could work together easily, and discuss ideas easily, and easily learn about After Effects, and individually I had used After Effects before, and this helped Harry learn more about After Effects as I showed him how it works. My personal strength was using After Effects because I have it at home and used it before.  Our weakness’ as a group were that we started the product late because we didn’t have the programme we needed to create the product, and that we weren’t always in as a group, we tried to organize work for each lesson incase the other wasn’t in, but it wasn’t always done, so individually we found it hard to work by ourselves by thinking up ideas, and creating parts of the product was slowed down because it would've been easier with both members of the group. My personal weakness was that I found it hard to create my own ideas if Harry wasn’t in the lesson, so I found it hard to do more of the product when i was alone.

To begin research for our product we started to research the history of the film genre, and we started to research other opening sequences, from other films or similar ones to get an idea of what we should include in an opening sequence. We researched the history of the bond movies to get a feel of what things are important to include in the opening sequence and what isn’t as important so that we can get the main features across in the opening sequence and then include our own ideas in the product, to plan the opening sequence we decided that we would write a mindmap up to get ideas of the things to include in the product, we didn’t do any filming because it was unnecessary, because we did the whole product from scratch by editing it using after effects and photoshop, we put a lot of time into editing the product and making it look decent enough for a multimedia opening sequence. We edited all from scratch and we didn't have a lot of time compared to everybody else so we did the best we could to make it professional.

By using a range of techniques we could make the product look more unique than a plain product, we changed the pace of the edit to keep the music in sync with the edit, and we tried to create our own images from scratch by using photoshop to use it in the multimedia product. So we used a variety of techniques for the product to make the product look different to other products.

A legal and ethical requirement is to not used a copyrighted product for our design, even though we did use a copyrighted song for the product we are using it educationally, if we weren’t using it for educational purposes we wouldn’t be able to use the song because the artist would be able to claim copyright, so the video would have to be taken down and a new uncopyrighted song would have to be added to the product to make sure that it is not illegal.

We had a problem completing the product, because when we got to a certain point in after effects, it would freeze so we couldn’t render it, this made us print screen the product that we could show on after effects, and upload the pictures to the blog as the finished product.
